What I'm up to now
Last updated November 2022.
This is a now page, and if you have your own site, you should make one too. I also made a Next page.
Career
In June 2021 I started working at Shopify as a Product Lead. Still there and loving it! Working on ads now.
Angel Investing
I started angel investing in 2020 and loved it so much that I decided to get more proactive about it. I joined First Round's Angel Track program to build a community and learn about better investing, and have been meeting with tons of founders to learn about their businesses and see how I can be helpful.
I've loved this primarily as a way to support fellow entrepreneurs and satiate my intellectual curiosity about a broader set of problem spaces than what I encounter in my day to day at Facebook.
Learning
I'm primarily spending my time right now learning about several subjects:
-
Starting with: fundamental knowledge in the areas of philosophy, politics, economics, and history
-
Then: Financial inclusion, sustainability / energy, education, healthcare, and urban planning / mobility
I'm making as much time as I can to read about these, and intend to write about them as a mechanism to (1) fully internalize what I'm learning, (2) share with others and refine my thinking, and (3) hopefully help others learn too.
Teaching
I've spent 10 years working as a Product Manager and am now helping others to benefit from what I've learned throughout that time. Both founders working on startups and Product Managers looking to accelerate their career.
Always happy to chat and help however I can, just reach out!
What I did before that
Worked at Facebook
In July I stared working at Facebook as a Product Manager on Civic and Health Integrity. My job is to keep Facebook and Instagram free of inauthentic behavior within our most sensitive topics like elections and COVID, all over the world.
I believe:
1) Social media has empowered everyone to have a voice in a way that has radically transformed how we engage politically and stay informed on everything from entertainment to health. This is a largely positive change in our global society's power structures. https://stratechery.com/2020/dust-in-the-light/
2) With such large influence comes a huge responsibility to ensure that these platforms are a safe, healthy, and inclusive place for dialogue. Especially around high stakes topics like elections and COVID. That's what our team works on.
Hiatus
I quit my last job at Lyft in March 2020 to start an indefinite career hiatus. My girlfriend quit hers too, and we are spending our time together living in different countries around the world, working on personal growth projects.
I have several main goals for this hiatus, and am excited to have the time and mental bandwidth to explore them!
Health
Developing better daily habits: sleep 8 hours, floss, meditate, stretch, exercise, and cook healthy food.
Organizing
When I quit Lyft, I had hundreds of unread emails in my personal inbox even after filtering out stuff I'm not interested in. I also have countless notes I've taken on various topics that I want to organize, centralize, and migrate to new preferred tools (eg: moving everything I want to keep from Evernote into Notion).
I'm also figuring out what systems and tool combinations will work best for me as I start to develop better habits around reading, taking notes, writing up my thoughts, elaborating more deeply on ideas I have, etc.
